Nowadays, people prefer doing things on their own, especially when it comes to their health. Things such as removal of catheters are now being handled by many people for their love one who is sick. Some opt for medical staffs to do it for them but most patients leave the personal tasks such as catheter removal or insertion to their family members.
Although the task is fairly easy, a little error on it would cause too much problem as well as pain to the patient. You need to be careful on doing it correctly or else you might as well have an experienced person do the insertion.
Tips On Removing Catheters:
1. Know the types of catheter used
There are two kinds of catheters. The first one is the Foley and the other one is the indwelling catheter. There is no big difference on the two but the process it is use on a patient. This is why you need to make sure of the type that was used before you start the process. Although if Foley is used, an experienced person is needed because it is a bit complicated than the other type.

2. Search for the inlet
If you are to remove an indwelling type, the first step is for you to find the inlet. This is the part where you can insert a syringe. Be wary of the size of the syringe that can fit the inlet. The smallest size is usually the one that would match.
3. Remove all fluid
The next task is for you to remove the fluid in the catheter. What you can do is pull out as much fluid as you possibly can, using the syringe. You may repeat the process until the last fluid came out. Be careful on handling both medical supplies because both are very sensitive device.
4. Remove the device
Once you are sure that no fluid is left, you may now start removing the medical tool. Little by little pull out the catheter from its insertion. Do this process as light as possible until the device is entirely removed.
